PRESS RELEASE: Marten Leijon Takes Helm As Executive Director of Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX)

WASHINGTON, September 3

Dear Colleagues,

I am truly excited to begin my work as Executive Director of the Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) and honored to be a part of an organization that plays such an important role in the evolution of microfinance.

I have many goals here at MIX, but chief among them is to ensure the ongoing growth and relevance of the data that MIX provides to the industry. We will continue providing you with the data, reports and research that you need to operate in a rapidly evolving and increasingly complex industry, using innovative tools to help you take full advantage of the breadth and depth of data that MIX has collected throughout the years. Here are just a couple of examples of what you can expect in the next few months:

• Product line information for a better understanding of the types of loans that microfinance institutions are providing their clients.
• MFI funding information to reflect the structure, sources and terms of MFIs’ funding.
• Multi-language capabilities on MIX Market, beginning with Spanish and French, adding several other languages over time.

I will also continue the work of building out our technology platform. Recently, MIX undertook the massive project of re-developing MIX Market and the underlying database. The team here has done an exceptional job at launching the new site, and we will continue to add new features to it. In fact, you can expect to receive a New Technology notice from us next week unveiling new reporting tools.

Finally, I look forward to working with all of you as we continue to build on the strong foundation in place here at MIX. Your suggestions of new ideas for MIX will be very useful for me as I work to further MIX’s role within the industry.
