MICROFINANCE EVENT: International Conference on Inclusive Insurance (ICII); October 24-28, 2022; Kingston, Jamaica

The upcoming iteration of this event – the first in-person since 2019 – will include 26 sessions on the increasing role of insurance in developing markets. The first day features pre-conference workshops such as: (1) Index Insurance Best Practices for Regulators and Practitioners; (2) ATLAS Life Insurance Simulation; (3) Partnerships that work: Leveraging PPP [Public-private Partnership] Collaboration to Reach 500 Million People by 2025; and (4) Coping with Climate Risk in Small Island Developing States (SIDS): Workshop on Disaster Risk Financing, Inclusive Insurance and Shock-responsive Social Protection. The main three days of the event are to include the following topics: (1) Reaching Scale in Small Markets; (2) Inclusive Insurance in Jamaica; (3) Digital Tools to Reach the Customer; (4) Evaluating Customer Value; and (5) New Partnerships to Unlock the MSME [Micro-, Small & Medium Enterprise] Insurance Market. The last day of the conference will be a site visit – the details of which have not yet been released – organized by Grace Kennedy General Insurance, which is also known as GK Insurance.

Background on Organizers: Established in 2005 upon the integration of the Jamaica Association of General Insurance Companies and the Life Insurance Companies Association of Jamaica, the Insurance Association of Jamaica (IAJ) seeks to support Jamaicans and their economy by advancing the development of the insurance industry. IAJ’s membership includes the British Caribbean Insurance Company, NCB Insurance Agency & Fund Managers, and Sagicor.

Registered in Luxembourg, Microinsurance Network (MiN) has been an independent NGO since 2012. Its goal is to help people – regardless of their financial status – minimize daily and catastrophic risks by making use of insurance services. The organization has 500 members representing 70 countries.

The Munich Re Foundation is the charitable affiliate of the Munich Reinsurance Group, a Germany-based reinsurer. The foundation seeks to share the group’s expertise on managing risk with aims including poverty reduction and minimizing climate change. During 2021, it partnered with 53 organizations and organized 22 events attended by 3,100 people. Munich Reinsurance Group reports return on equity of 12 percent on EUR 16 billion (USD 16 billion) in premiums written during the quarter ending June 2022.

Cost: The standard fee to attend is USD 990, with discounts of USD 200 offered during September and USD 300 during August. Members of the MiN may enjoy an additional discount of USD 50 discount if they register during August. The fee for IAJ members and NGOs is USD 290 during August, increasing by USD 100 on the first of September and again on the first of October. Virtual access is available for USD 100. There is no charge for representatives of regulatory and supervisory authorities.
