MICROFINANCE EVENT: Global SME Finance Forum; September 12-14, 2023; Mumbai, India

The ninth iteration of this event will explore financial services providers’ delivery of digital services to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), leveraging samples from India and abroad. The forum will cover topics – particularly “ecosystems” – relating to digital finance, international payments, “green” lending, supporting supply chain actors, leveraging loan guarantees, managing risk and financing international trade. Sessions will also address strategies to boost financial inclusion for customer segments such as farmers, migrants and women.

Background on Organizers: Founded in 1946, the Indian Banks’ Association seeks to develop “a healthy, professional and forward-looking banking and financial services industry, in a manner consistent with public good.” As of May 2023, the entity’s 229 members reported aggregate deposits of INR 184 trillion (USD 2.2 trillion).

Founded in 1990, the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) is a government-owned institution that seeks to support microenterprises, SMEs and the funders that serve them.

The SME Finance Forum was founded by the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion in 2012 and is managed by the World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation. Its purpose is to share “data, research and best practice” for advancing the success of SMEs. The organization has 240 members as of 2022.

Cost: The standard fee to attend the event is USD 1,500, but a rate of USD 900 is offered to all who register before August 11.
