MICROFINANCE EVENT: CIS Islamic Banking and Finance Forum; POSTPONED; Tashkent, Uzbekistan

Originally, scheduled for August 13 to 15, 2020, this event has been postponed due to COVID-19. The new dates have not been announced. The first day of this event is planned as a conference featuring a presentation by Dr Irfan Yusuf Shami, the Pakistani ambassador to Uzbekistan. The other speakers include Pervez Nasim, the CEO of Ansar Financial and Development Corporation, and Muhammed Zubair, the CEO of AlHuda CIBE. The sessions will cover Islamic banking, financial inclusion, investment opportunities in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), takaful and sukuk. Takaful and sukuk, are forms of, respectively, insurance and bond investing that comply with Islamic law. The final two days of the event are organized as a workshop on Islamic banking, Islamic microfinance and takaful.

Cost: A pass to the opening-day conference costs USD 395, and a pass to the two-day workshop costs USD 495. Those registering for both may enjoy a discount of USD 100.

Background on Organizer: AlHuda Center of Islamic Banking and Economics (CIBE) is a nonprofit organization that specializes in research, training and consulting in the Islamic microfinance industry. The organization also organizes distance learning programs; publishes a monthly newsletter entitled “Islamic Banking and Finance News;” and provides technical assistance regarding Shariah, a term for Islamic law. AlHuda CIBE has offices in Pakistan, Uganda and the United Arab Emirates.
