MICROFINANCE EVENT: Sankalp Africa Summit; March 1-4, 2022; Nairobi, Kenya

In parallel with its sibling Sankalp events that have a global or Southeast Asian focus, this forum is intended to “leverage the knowledge and networks from entrepreneurs, investors, corporations and policymakers” to promote “development through entrepreneurship and innovation.” The theme for the ninth Sankalp Africa Summit is “mainstreaming impact” to create impact-driven economies. Topic areas include: (1) Inclusive Fintech [Financial Technology] and Financial Services; (2) Healthcare, Water and Sanitation; (3) Gender-lens Investing and Women Leaders; (4) Agriculture; (5) Climate Change and Circular Economies; and (6) Impact Investing, Blended Finance and Collaborative Philanthropy. The event also offers “deal rooms” for investors and entrepreneurs to meet as well as classes relating to entrepreneurship.

As of 2021, the group manages assets totaling USD 1.1 billion and employs 6,500 people in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Kenya and the US. Intellecap is an India-based unit of the group that “works to build businesses that can benefit the underserved segments across Asia and Africa,” including in the fields of health, agriculture and financial inclusion.
