MICROFINANCE EVENT: Inclusive Finance India Summit; December 4-5, 2019; New Delhi, India

This conference series began in support of India’s national financial inclusion strategy, which first was introduced in 2005 under Dr Y Venugopal Reddy, who was then governor of the Reserve Bank of India. This year, the event will cover issues related to expanding and easing access to financial solutions for households as well as microenterprises, such as: (1) agricultural lending; (2) using technology to include more participants in the financial system; (3) the security of information collected about clients; (4) linkages between banks and self-help groups; and (5) determining whether “approaches for microenterprise financing are…inclusive enough”. This event was known previously as the Microfinance India Summit.

Background on Organizer: Access Development Services was established in 2006 with the support of the UK’s Department of International Development. It is a nonprofit organization that seeks to reduce poverty in India via a three-pronged approach: the direct implementation of various initiatives, advising civil society organisations and supporting government policies that advance financial inclusion. The organization is active in nine states in India. According to its 2018 financial report, Access received INR 191 million (USD 2.7 million) in donations for the year.

Cost: The standard cost for Indian nationals to register is INR 12,500, and the standard cost for international participants is USD 550. However, students and all female delegates are eligible for a discount of 50 percent. For others, discounts of 10 percent to 50 percent are available, based on factors such as country of domicile, employer type and employer size.
