MICROFINANCE EVENT: Enlit Africa Forum on Energy, Power and Water; May 16-18, 2023; Cape Town, South Africa

The 2023 edition of this annual event will cover topics relating to energy and water in Africa, including how to invest in support of climate resilience and energy security while aligning short-term successes with host nations’ long-term visions. The opening-day keynote is titled Integrating Just Energy Transition Objectives Into Crisis Handling and is to be followed on the second day by another keynote, Africa’s Just Energy Transition Investment. The closing day will focus on energy storage and renewable energy with additional presentations specific to various African countries.

The agenda includes speakers such as Minister Enoch Gondwana, Minister of Finance, South Africa; Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, Minister of Electricity, South Africa; and Abel Didier Tella, Secretary General, Association of Power Utilities of Africa. The attendees will include delegates from utilities such as South Africa’s Eskom, Namibia’s NORED, Rwanda Energy Group, Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited and Zambia’s Zesco.

Background on organizer: Enlit Africa is part of the South Africa-based Vuka Group, which is presenting the event in partnership with the City of Cape Town, South Africa’s Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, Eskom Utility, and the media firm ESI Africa.

Over its 20 years of existence, Vuka has been active in various industries in Africa, such as mining, energy, retail, transportation and environmental sustainability. Its projects have included increasing energy safety and sustainability in Democratic Republic of Congo, supporting renewable energy in South Africa, and improving educational opportunities in Zamibia.

Cost: Tickets to enter the expo are available free of charge. However, there are three levels of premium access, priced up to ZAR 19,240 (USD 1,000), offering access to additional networking, roundtable discussions, site visits and meals.
