MICROFINANCE EVENT: Convergences World Forum; September 5-6, 2019; Paris, France

The 12th edition of this event is themed “inequalities – transitions – solutions.” The program will focus on six of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): quality education; decent work and economic growth; reduced inequalities; climate action; peace, justice and quality institutions; and partnerships for these goals. Sample session topics include the Launch of the Microfinance Barometer, Social Impact Measurement and Fighting Energy Insecurity. The Microfinance Barometer is a yearly publication that focuses on topics including the past performance of the microfinance sector, future opportunities within the sector, and tradeoffs between profitability and social responsibility. In addition to conference sessions, a “3Zero Village” will showcase the work of organizations that are “building tomorrow’s sustainable solutions.”

Background on Organizer: Convergences is a France-based NGO aimed at bringing together the public, private and philanthropic sectors to promote the SDGs and encourage the development of a “Zero Carbon, Zero Exclusion, Zero Poverty” world. The organization was founded in 2008 and has since grown to engage approximately 200 partners. The organization had expenditures of EUR 696,000 (USD 780,00) during 2017.

Cost: The cost to attend for representatives of for-profit companies is EUR 350 (USD 392) for a one-day pass and EUR 500 (USD 560) for a two-day pass. Discounts are offered for foundations, start-ups, social enterprises, academic organizations, individuals under 26 years old, job seekers and others.
