MICROFINANCE EVENT: CERISE+SPTF Annual Meeting; Towards Impact Conference; September 28-30, 2022; Paris, France

The first of these events – the combined annual meeting of the Social Performance Task Force (SPTF) and Comité d’Echange, de Réflexion et sur les Systèmes d’Epargne-Crédit (CERISE) – is titled Celebrating 10 Years of the Universal Standards for Social and Environmental Performance Management. The first day will include meetings of committees such as the Digital Financial Services Standards Working Group and the Social Investors Working Group. The following day features sessions such as: (1) Strengthening Market Systems for Customer Protection and Empowerment; and (2) Green Inclusive Finance.

On September 30, CERISE, SPTF and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will host the second half of their Towards Impact event series, following a virtual conference held on June 22, 2022. This event will focus on how the Universal Standards for Social and Environmental Performance Management work with the Impact Standards developed by OECD and UN Development Program. Sample session titles include: (1) The Role of Donors in Driving the Impact Measurement and Management Agenda; and (2) Standardisaton, and How Standards Can Be a Force For Good.

Background on the Organizers: SPTF, an NGO founded in 2005, works to improve the social and environmental performance management (SEPM) of microfinance institutions. SEPM refers to the systems that organizations use to achieve their social and environmental goals, such as improving clients’ well-being. SEPM strategies include defining and monitoring goals, developing client-centric products and services, treating clients and employees responsibly, and balancing social, environmental and financial performance.

Founded in France in 1998, CERISE is a nonprofit that aims to support “ethical and responsible finance” in order to drive social and economic development. The organization works to help stakeholders in “inclusive finance, social business and impact-investing” achieve social impact by providing them with advisory services, portfolio analyses, benchmarking reports and social audits.

Established in 1961, OECD has 38 member states. The organization seeks to support the development of policies boosting social and economic well-being via democracy and free market economics.

Cost: Registration for the annual meeting costs USD 600 for non-members and USD 500 for members of SPTF. Attendance is free of charge for the Towards Impact event.
