Metrics from the Ground Up focuses on measuring the impact of small and growing businesses (SGBs) and developing strategies to increase that impact. Its organizer, the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE), is an adoption partner of the Impact Reporting and Investment Standards (IRIS) of the US-based nonprofit Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN). IRIS is a set of metrics used “to measure social, environmental, and financial success” such as access to clean water, sanitation, education, energy, financial services and affordable housing.
The theme of this iteration of the conference is Impact Measurement with a Gender Lens, which will include discussions on the role of gender in impact measurement. Although this year’s agenda has not been published yet, the 2018 agenda included topics such as Right-Fit Evidence for the Social Sector and Building Collective Solutions.
Background on Organizers: ANDE is a US-based network of organizations dedicated to encouraging innovation in low- and middle-income countries by investing in SGBs. ANDE researches SGBs to support them as the “engines of growth in emerging markets.” It has approximately 260 members working in 150 countries. Its parent organization, the Aspen Institute, is a nonpartisan think tank based in the city of Washington that seeks to improve education and international development policy.
Cost: The cost to attend is USD 525, although a rate of USD 250 is offered to members of ANDE. Participants who will also attend the Foro Latinoamericano de Inversión de Impacto on February 19 to February 21, may receive a 25-percent discount by emailing Danielle Snowden at danielle.snowden[at]aspeninst.org.
