The Microfinance Pasifika Network is an initiative of the Australian non-profit international development organization, Foundation for Development Cooperation. The network was primarily formed to address certain key constraints facing microfinance practitioners in the Pacific region namely, the small, spread-out, isolated population of the Pacific regions and the lack of sufficient know-how of the microfinance discipline among practitioners. Microfinance Pacifika was formally launched on the 16 and 17 of June, 2006 in Port Vila, Vanuatu with the objective of improving the quality of life of people in the Pacific through the provision of inclusive and sustainable microfinancial services and to disseminate relevant information to assist practitioners and supporters of microfinance operations to increase outreach and to perform better. As per currently available information, the member base consists of 12 financial members, including major donors, 10 provisional and 15 associated organizations from across the Pacific; the main composition being made up of NGOs and commercial banks. Countries represented within the membership are: Australia, the Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu.
