Finaktiva, a Colombia-based online credit provider, recently raised USD 9 million from a group of investors led by Netherlands-based Triodos Bank and Switzerland-based investment firm AlphaMundi. The other investors, which are based in Colombia, are: Bancoldex, a government-owned development bank; Aktiva, an investor in small and medium-sized enterprises; two private banks, Bancolombia and Confiar; and several family offices. Neither the breakdown of debt versus equity nor the amounts of each investment have been released.
Finaktiva was founded in 2017 to finance the early-stage growth of Colombian start-ups. The firm seeks to differentiate itself from its competitors via alternative application requirements, flexible loan terms and the ability to process applications in five days. With this investment package, Finaktiva has raised a total of USD 15 million since its inception.
Established in 1980, Triodos is a commercial bank that offers services ranging from deposits and loans to venture capital fund management. It finances organisations that “work in the nature and environment sectors, social business, culture and welfare.” During 2018, Triodos brought in a net profit of EUR 38.6 million (USD 42.9 million) on EUR 15.5 billion (USD 17.2 billion) in assets under management.
Founded in 2007, AlphaMundi is a private investment advisory company that focuses on “profitable investments that generate substantial net benefits to society.” It has investments in 16 companies in eight countries in Africa and Latin America. These companies serve 404,000 clients, of whom 92 percent live in rural areas.
