The Peruvian lender Prestamype recently raised USD 5 million in equity in a pre-Series A funding round. The investment package was led by placements from Colombia-based fund manager Acumen Latam Impact Ventures (ALIVE) and the Netherlands-based cooperative Oikocredit. Among the other participating investors are three Peruvian venture capital firms, AVP Ventures, Inca Ventures and Salkantay Ventures.
Prestamype was founded in 2017 and is based in Lima. It offers online financial services such as working capital loans, mortgage guarantees, and management of its customers’ payments from their clients and to their vendors. Prestamype targets micro- and small enterprises that lack credit histories. During the first half of 2023, the firm completed disbursements totaling USD 43 million. Prestamype concluded a seed funding round in 2021 and a second round in 2022.
ALIVE Ventures was founded in 2018 and is based in Bogotá. It targets companies mainly in Colombia and Peru that offer financial services to low-income clients in a way that minimizes harm to the environment. Its parent company is the US-based NGO Acumen Fund, which was founded in 2001 and invests in companies whose services are intended to reduce poverty. As of 2021, Acumen reported total assets of USD 159 million.
Oikocredit was established in 1975 and is active in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. As of March 2023, the coop reports capital of EUR 1.0 billion (USD 1.1 billion) outstanding to about 500 partner organizations active in financial inclusion, agriculture and renewable energy. For the first quarter of 2023, it reported a return on equity of 1.1 percent and a return on assets of 1.0 percent. During 2022, it reports having issued new disbursements of EUR 409 million (USD 448 million).
