The Swiss investment manager BlueOrchard recently raised an additional USD 14.6 million from undisclosed investors for its BlueOrchard Sustainable Assets Fund (BOSAF), an infrastructure debt fund active in “growth markets.” Among BOSAF’s outstanding placements are: (1) USD 14.5 million in U-Solar, an Indian firm with a track record of 100 solar projects; and (2) up to USD 8 million in ChargeZone, an Indian company that has established 3,000 electric vehicle charging points. BlueOrchard launched BOSAF in October 2021 with USD 15 million in seed funding from its parent company, Schroders.
Founded in 1804, UK-based asset manager Schroders is a publicly traded firm with operations in 32 countries. As of 2022, it reports assets under management valued at GBP 737 billion (USD 992 billion).
Founded in 2001, BlueOrchard’s goal is “generating lasting positive impact for communities and the environment, while aiming at providing attractive returns to investors.” As of December 2022, the firm has disbursed USD 10 billion in private debt. Of the clients served by BlueOrchard’s investees, 80 percent are women, two-thirds live in rural areas, and 130,000 are students and educational institutions.
