MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Call for Proposals for 8th International Microinsurance Conference, Hosted by Munich Re Foundation, Microinsurance Network, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, November 6 to 8, 2012

Munich Re Foundation, a German nonprofit organization [1], and the Microinsurance Network, a Luxembourg-based membership organization seeking to improve access to insurance for poor people [2], have issued a call for proposals for presentations to be made at the eighth International Microinsurance Conference, which will be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, beginning on November 6, 2012.

A variety of proposals are to be welcomed, such as “case studies of innovative and viable client-centered microinsurance solutions” as well as presentations covering issues such as experiences with cooperative and mutual insurers, using technology to achieve scale and efficiency, failures in microinsurance, consumer protection and agricultural and health microinsurance [3]. In addition, microinsurance training sessions may be proposed as may academic papers offering economic analyses of microinsurance markets. Proposals may be submitted by completing a proposal form, which can be downloaded at www.microinsuranceconference.org/2012. Admission prices have not yet been disclosed for the conference.

About Microinsurance Network: The Microinsurance Network is a Luxembourg-based membership organization whose goal is to facilitate the expansion of insurance services to poor people by providing a platform for effective information sharing. As of 2011, the organization has 52 members worldwide.

About Munich Re Foundation: Munich Re Foundation is a Germany-based nonprofit organization that was founded in 2005 and whose focus is to find innovative solutions to problems such as population growth, globalization, wealth inequality and the environment. Munich Re Foundation is an arm of Munich Re, a German reinsurance company that has been in operation 130 years with EUR 236.4 billion (USD 313 billion) in total assets as December 31, 2010 [4]. No financial information has been disclosed for Munich Re Foundation.
