MICROFINANCE EVENT: Remittance Africa 2018: “Unlocking Opportunities in Money Transfer and Payment Systems in Africa;” October 23-24, 2018; Lagos, Nigeria

Event Summary: Themed “Unlocking Opportunities in Money Transfer and Payment Systems in Africa,” this event is intended is “to create a continental dialogue on deepening the remittance and payment ecosystems in Africa.” Attendees representing electronic payment providers, financial service providers, government agencies and mobile network operators will convene to explore the domestic and international payment platforms operating in Africa. Although the conference agenda is being drafted still, it is to include topics such as how remittances affect consumers’ savings, regulation in the African remittance market, the role of cryptocurrency, and the relationship between remittances and financial inclusion.

Background on Organizer: Based in Nigeria, Mobile Money Africa is a news provider for the digital financial services industry on the continent. The firm, which is owned by Go Mobile Nigeria, has organized six Remittance Africa events in the past.

Cost: For foreign attendees, registration through September 30 costs USD 200. Afterwards, the rate for this group increases to USD 250. The early and regular fees for domestic attendees are NGN 30,000 (USD 83) and NGN 40,000 (USD 111), respectively.
