Sessions at this event will cover topics such as aligning government policies with environmental science; supporting female entrepreneurs; how biodiversity impacts economies; and understanding the connections among climate change, poverty, and gender inequality. For example, a plenary session titled “Financing Biodiversity Conversation and Nature-based Solutions for Sustainability Challenges” will address gender-responsive policies, partnerships, and financing mechanisms.
Background on Organizers: The Global Development Network (GDN), an NGO based in India, seeks to advance social science research in low- and middle-income countries as well as collaboration among researchers, policymakers and stakeholders. GDN also seeks to merge economics with environmental conservation through concepts such as natural capital accounting and events such as the organization’s Biodiversity and Development Awards.
Future Earth is a US-based nonprofit network of scientists and innovators that promotes collaboration across sectors to create fair and resilient societies within a “stable Earth system.”
Universidad San Francisco de Quito is a liberal arts university in Ecuador that promotes financial education in addition to offering programming on biodiversity, environmental management and economics.
Cost: The standard admission fee is USD 300, with rates of USD 100 available to those from low- and middle-income countries and USD 50 for students. Online participation is free of charge.
