Background on Organizer: The Asia Insurance Review was launched in 1991 and provides information related to insurance for practitioners in Asia and around the world. More recently it has organized technical conferences for the insurance industry. Located in Singapore, it has representatives in Asia, the UK and USA.
Background on Other Organizations Involved: Supporting organizations of this event are MicroEnsure, Micro Insurance Network, Micro Insurance Academy and Planet Guarantee.
MicroEnsure, previously known as the Micro Insurance Agency, was established in 2005 as a fully owned subsidiary of Opportunity International. It works as an insurance intermediary to develop insurance products for organizations that work with the poor.
The Micro Insurance Network (MIN) provides donor organizations, multilateral agencies and insurance providers with a platform to share information and coordinate stakeholders. Its aim is to promote insurance products to low income individuals. MIN was originally established in 2002 as a Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) Working Group on Microinsurance.
The Micro Insurance Academy is based in India and provides training, advisory services and research to microinsurance organizations. It is a charitable trust established in 2007 and works in India and neighboring countries.
PlaNet Guarantee is the part of the PlaNet Finance Group and works with microfinance institutions to develop microinsurance systems. It undertakes market studies, training, awareness raising, risk analysis and design of products.
Event Themes and Discussion Topics: This year’s theme is ‘Microinsurance as an Attractive Growth Strategy in the Changing Economic Landscape’. This will focus on how Asia has embraced microinsurance and how various markets are using microinsurance. The program will include topics on policy reforms, key challenges, and how to support microinsurance in the current challenging financial environment. The conference will also focus on key success strategies, initiatives in product innovation, marketing microinsurance, distribution channels, and how microinsurance is a growth strategy for the insurance industry.
