The US-based social enterprise Pro Mujer recently launched “Digital Pro Mujer,” targeting southeastern Mexico, but open to women entrepreneurs and employees across Latin America. The platform offers a range of services, including digital wallets as well as virtual education and mentoring to help users develop digital and financial skills. The digital wallets offer services such as savings, payments and loans based on non-traditional scoring methods.
Established in 1990 in Bolivia, Pro Mujer operates in Argentina, Bolivia, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru. Its focus is to increase access to financial, health and educational services for women and their families. During 2020, Pro Mujer provided: (1) financial services to 195,000 clients, disbursing loans totaling USD 202 million; (2) 126,000 health interventions, including 11,300 cancer screenings; and (3) online workshops for 90,000 people.
