Summary of Events: The conference will provide an overview of Islamic banking including its regulatory framework, products and guiding principles as well as investment opportunities in Islamic banking. The conference will also feature a session on Islamic microfinance covering microinsurance, Islamic microfinance as a poverty alleviation tool, and other challenges and opportunities facing Islamic microfinance institutions (MFIs).
Background on Organizer: AlHuda Centre of Islamic Banking and Economics (CIBE) provides advisory services and training related to financial products and services that uphold Islamic laws, also known as the Sharia. Established in Pakistan, the organization offers services that include education and training, consulting and research such as market studies, feasibility reports and surveys. AlHuda CIBE created the nonprofit Islamic Microfinance Network (IMFN) in 2009 to develop and promote the Islamic microfinance industry. IMFN’s mission is to increase public awareness of Islamic financial systems as well as to develop financial products that are compliant with Sharia laws.
Event Themes and Topics: The conference will feature an overview of the Islamic banking and finance industry as well as discussions on the role of Sharia in banking, investment opportunities in Mauritius, Islamic microfinance, Islamic insurance and the role of training and education for the development of Islamic banking.
