MICROFINANCE EVENT: Association of Ethiopian Microfinance Institutions (AEMFI) Biennial Microfinance Conference; January 25-28, 2022; Bahirdar, Ethiopia

The 11th edition of this conference is themed “Promoting Digital Finance and COVID-resilient Financial Services towards the Achievement of Financial Inclusion.” Researchers and practitioners will present their papers and experiences on topics such as client protection; debt moratoria; partnering with banks and financial technology (fintech) firms; governance; regulation; and funding renewable energy, clean water and sanitation. Sessions will also cover serving particular customer segments, including rural customers, women and youth as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). AEMFI member Amhara Credit and Savings Institution is hosting the event.

Background on organisers: Established in 1999, AEMFI is a nonprofit organisation through which microfinance practitioners partner to expand the microfinance industry in Ethiopia. In addition to individuals and organisations indirectly involved in microfinance, AEMFI has 35 member microfinance institutions (MFIs) as of 2021. These organisations provide credit, savings, money transfer and pension-payment services in eight of the 11 administrative units of Ethiopia.
