The Arab Women Authority, an NGO aimed at empowering Arab women in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), recently entered into a strategic partnership with National Bonds, a UAE-based investment company owned by the government of Dubai, with the goal of enhancing women’s economic power. In particular, the entities plan to offer opportunities for women in MENA to boost their financial literacy skills, including by hosting events on financial literacy and microfinance for women.
The Secretary-General of the Arab Women Authority, Mohammed Al-Dulaimi, commented, “…we want to give every Arab woman the opportunity to enhance her financial literacy and begin saving for [her] future. The partnership also focuses on creating investment and employment opportunities for women, especially among female entrepreneurs and businesses to help increase their contribution and role in the growth of the economy.”
Founded in 2000, the Arab Women Authority has launched projects such as Our Green World, which enhances women’s involvement in the agricultural sector and has a goal of planting 22 million trees.
Established in 2006, UAE-based National Bonds is a joint stock company offering Shariah-compliant savings and investment services. Shariah-compliant financial services are those that comply with Islamic law, such as by using profit sharing in lieu of charging interest.
