Summary of Event: The theme of the conference is “Mobilizing social finance globally – learning from each other.” The organizers aim it to address issues regarding the challenges cooperatives face in fully participating in economies and grassroots participation in renewable energies, agriculture and food products as well as the role that civil society plays in creating healthy societies and economies.
Background on Organizers: The event is organized by the International Association of investors in the Social Economy (INAISE), a global network of socially-focused financial institutions; GLS Bank, a Germany-based cooperative bank that finances cultural and ecological projects; Oikocredit, a Dutch cooperative investment fund; and the German nonprofit, Institute for Social Banking.

About Oikocredit:
Oikocredit is a Dutch cooperative investment fund comprised of church groups, cooperatives and individual investors. Established in 1975, it works in 70 countries, investing mainly in microfinance institutions (MFIs) as well as trade cooperatives, fair trade organizations and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the developing world. As of 2013, Oikocredit reported total assets of EUR 756 million (USD 1.05 billion) and 815 active investors, of which 596 were MFIs.
