MICROFINANCE EVENT: University of California, Berkeley Hosts 10th Annual Global Business Plan Competition for Social Ventures

GLOBAL SOCIAL VENTURE 2009 COMPETITION (GSVC)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARIES DUE JANUARY 21, 2009 at www.gsvc.org.

The Haas School of Business (UC Berkeley) in conjunction with Columbia Business School, London Business School, Thammasat University, and India School of Business are hosting the 10th Anniversary Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC). The competition seeks out social entrepreneurs with a financially sustainable venture which seeks to address a social or environmental problem.

Past winners have received up to USD 500,000 in funds for their venture as well as valuable mentoring hours from seasoned professionals in various industries.

Entrant requirements are as follows:
o Every team must include at least one member who is a current student in ANY graduate business program or who has graduated from any graduate business program within the past 24 months.
o Operating companies are welcome to enter, though they must be less than 3 years old (as measured by first revenue or first patent issued).
o Plan can be for a for-profit or non-profit as long as either can be financially self-sustaining at scale.
