Summary of Event: The 2010 Mobile Money Summit will focus on the mobile money industry and how the sector has evolved in the past year. The Summit will feature an exhibition showcasing innovative mobile money products and services. The Summit will also provide an opportunity to network with financial services institutions, mobile network operators, development organizations and solution providers, as well as regulators and policy makers.
Background on Organizer: Established in 1982, Groupe Speciale Mobile Association (GSMA) unites nearly 800 of the world’s mobile operators, as well as more than 200 companies in the broader mobile industry. The GSMA aims to innovate, incubate and create new opportunities for its membership, all with the end goal of driving the growth of the mobile communications industry.
Event Themes and Discussion Topics:
Day 1: Executive Regulatory Workshop for Mobile Operators and Mobile Money for the Unbanked Working Group (both events are by invitation only)
Day 2 and 3: Topics include: 1) Operator Heavyweights Embrace Mobile Money, 2) The Case for Banks Investing in Mobile Money, 3) Emerging Business Models for Mobile Money and 4) New Success Stories – Untapped Areas of Growth and Opportunities for Mobile Money

Presenters include Alvaro Martin Enriquez, Head of Innovation of Analistas Financieros Internacionales (Afi), a Spain-based reference institution specializing in economic and financial consultancy; Antony Belpaire, General Manager, Mobile Wallet of Alcatel-Lucent, a France-based company that specializes in fixed, mobile and converged broadband networking; Koji Ono, Chief Strategy Officer of Axiata Bangladesh (Robi), a Bangladesh-based GSM communication solutions provider; and Daryl Collins, Consultant and Author, Portfolios of the Poor, of Bankable Frontiers, a US-based strategic consulting firm that specializes in the policy, regulation and practice of banking the unbanked.
