Empower Generation, a US-based social enterprise that supports clean energy and women’s entrepreneurship in Nepal, recently launched one-year payment plans for purchasing its home solar generator systems. During the payment term, customers pay an installment each month via their mobile phones.
Since its founding in 2012, Empower has helped 20 women launch businesses in rural Nepal by giving them technical training, marketing materials and products to sell, such as solar-powered phone chargers, flashlights and rechargeable batteries. As of 2017, these entrepreneurs have sold 60,000 products to 30,000 customers. The firm is based in the city of Portland, Oregon.
