Summary of Event: This seminar aims to bring together agricultural economists and other scientists working in the field of rural and agricultural development in developing and transformation countries in order to analyze the impacts of climate change on food security, and to evaluate relevant options for adaptation to and mitigation of climate change in the food and agricultural sector. Microinsurance will be one of the topics discussed at the seminar.
Background on Organizer: The seminar will be hosted and co-organized by the Food Security Centre of the University of Hohenheim. The newly founded Center is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (see www.exceed.de). The main organizer, the European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE), has organized a seminar on a tri-annual basis since 1989 that focuses on agricultural and rural development issues in the developing world. The EAAE was founded in 1975 as a framework to support live interaction among agricultural economists. It currently has about 1,100 members.
Schedule: A detailed program has not yet been published.
Who Is Invited to Attend: Participants of an EAAE-Seminar have to be members of the EAAE. The participation fees for current non-members include the EAAE membership fee of 45 Euro for the period September 2008 – August 2011.
About the Presenters: Experts are encouraged to submit contributed and poster papers. Contributed papers should not exceed 20 pages/10,000 words and will be for plenary or parallel sessions. Poster papers should not exceed 10 pages/5,000 words and will be for the poster session. The deadline to submit papers is April 15, 2010. Notification will be sent out by June 1, 2010.
