The International Fund for Agricultural Development’s (IFAD’s) Financing Facility for Remittances (FFR), a USD 18 million fund that seeks to reduce poverty by leveraging remittances for development in rural areas of developing countries, recently announced its Call for Proposals 2010. Public, private and civil society entities are all eligible to apply. According to an IFAD press release, projects including multi-sector partnerships will be favored.
Possible themes include: mobile financial services, postal networks, microfinance networks, innovation in financial services, migrant entrepreneurship and investment, housing, microinsurance, migrant pensions and securitization.

About the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD):
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), an agency of the United Nations, was established in 1977 as an outcome of the 1974 World Food Conference. IFAD is dedicated to eradicating rural poverty in developing countries by focusing on country-specific solutions.
Since 1978, IFAD has invested USD 11.3 billion in 829 projects and programmes. Another USD 18 billion has been contributed in cofinancing from governments, project participants and multilateral, bilateral and other donors.
