Sathapana Limited, a Cambodia-based microfinance institution (MFI), reportedly has partnered with ElectraCard Services (ECS), a subsidiary of India-based Opus Software Solutions that provides electronic payment services, to provide automated teller machine (ATM) and debit card services to Sathapana customers. Sathapana plans to provide card-less remittances, airtime top-up for mobile phones, dual currency cash dispensing, and check and cash deposit services through ElectraCard’s electronic payment platform. ElectraCard’s products include electraSwitch, a routing system that allows financial institutions to deliver services via ATMs, kiosks, cash deposit machines, point of sale (POS) terminals, internet, land-line telephone and mobile phone; and electraDebit, which supports various debit card operations that are compatible with networks such as Visa and MasterCard.
Sathapana is majority-held by Mahuran Japan Bank. As of 2012, Sathapana reported to the US-based nonprofit Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) total assets of USD 150 million, a gross loan portfolio of USD 121 million, approximately 68,000 active borrowers and deposits of USD 66.7 million from 44,000 depositors. In addition to India, Opus Software Solutions, has Dubai, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States. Originally established as a nonprofit organization called Cambodian Community Building (CCB), Sathapana Limited registered with the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) as a microfinance institution (MFI) under its current name in 2003. Sathapana obtained a deposit taking license from NBC in 2009. Sathapana is majority-held by Mahuran Japan Bank. Dr Bun Mony serves as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sathapana as of 2013. For the year 2012, Sathapana reported to the US-based nonprofit Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) total assets of USD 150 million, a gross loan portfolio of USD 121 million, approximately 68,000 active borrowers and deposits of USD 66.7 million from 44,000 depositors.
