Description of Organizers:

The United Nations Development Programme intends to provide advice, training, and grant support to developing countries, in order to encourage progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals.

Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR) is a non-profit organization established in 1970 by ICICI, the House of Kotharis, and other major industrial groups.  The institute focuses on three main areas, including academic programs, research and innovation at various specialized research centers, as well as executive training and consulting. Research Centers include: Centre for Micro Finance (CMF), Centre for Development Finance (CDF), Small Enterprice Finance Centre (SEFC), Centre for Insurance & Risk Management (CIRM), Center for Advanced Financial Studies (CAFS), Centre for Innovative Financial Design (CIFD), and Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL).

Centre for Insurance and Risk Management (CIRM), one of the many research centers of the Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR), was established by the Social Initiatives Group of ICICI Bank to improve product development abilities for insurance and risk-reducing tools. The center works with insurers, non-governmental organizations, and industry regulators to develop insurance programs for the poor.

Centre for Microfinance (CMF), one of the many research centers of the Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR), was established in Chennai, India in 2005. The purpose of the center is to improve accessibility and quality of financial services to the poor through research, dispersion of knowledge, and evidence-based policy for microfinance institutions (MFIs). CMF partners with MFIs, banks, training institutions, as well as academic institutions to conduct research in four main areas: (1) impact evaluation of credit and savings products, (2) how to combine effectively microfinance with other development interventions and non financial services, (3) insurance and innovative products, and (4) sector wide and policy issues, such as regulations or the impact of competition.
