Summary of Event: This conference focuses on harnessing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to create growth in Africa. Sample session topics include “Driving the Sustainable Development Agenda: Bridging the Gap Between Corporations and Small Businesses,” “INGOs in Impact Investing,” and “Facilitating Debt Financing for Early Stage Enterprises.” Now in its fifth iteration, the forum will convene 1,000 delegates from 40 countries. According to the event website, “social development goals are projected to generate over USD 1.1 trillion in market value and 85 million jobs across the continent by 2030.”

Background on Organizer: This event is part of the Sankalp Forum, which was launched in 2009 and connects SMEs with investors and business support services through its “common action platform.” This platform has 23,000 members, including entrepreneurs, investors and policymakers. Sankalp is an initiative of the India-based Intellecap Group whose “services include microfinance development, technology solutions, investment banking and business consulting.” Intellecap has 600 employees in India and the US, and focuses on improving the quality of life for people at the base of the economic pyramid [1].
