Cost: USD 1,150 for 3 days; USD 1,300 for 5 days. Materials, lunches, breaks and field trips are included in tuition. Participants are responsible for travel to the venue, accommodation and dinner costs.
Summary of Event: This course is primarily designed for project managers and investment officers making funding decisions on microfinance. The course aims to provide participants with background in microfinance and the tools to make sound financing decisions. Case studies and group work built on real-life situations allow participants to learn in a creative and interactive environment. The course involves a site visit to several microfinance institutions (MFIs) in the country of instruction. Those staying for the short course (3 days) will receive a thorough overview of the fundamentals of microfinance. Participants attending the full course (5 days) will benefit from carefully sequenced sessions that lead up to the practical application of principles of good practice.
Background on Organizer: This course is provided by CGAP (Consultative Group to Assist the Poor), a policy and research center dedicated to providing financial access for the world’s poor. CGAP is supported by approximately thirty development agencies and private foundations. Its mission is to provide market intelligence, to promote standards and to offer advisory services to governments, microfinance providers, donors and investors.
