Trickle Up, an international poverty alleviation organization based in the US, has announced the release of its documentary film, “The Test of Poverty,” which covers poverty’s effects on those living on less than USD 1.25 a day and the services that can help alleviate those effects. The film follows the lives of two women in West Bengal, India, showing how these women were able to improve their standard of living by participating in Trickle Up’s program that provides grants to help individuals purchase tools, seeds, fertilizer and livestock. The program also provides financial literacy training and introduces savings groups through which members make interest-bearing loans to each other.
The film was directed by Gautam Bose and produced with the assistance of CGAP (Consultative Group to Assist the Poor), a Washington-based policy and research center [1].
