MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Microfinance Investment Support Facility for Afghanistan (MISFA) Announces Afghan Microfinance Sector Reaches $1b in Loan Disbursements

The Microfinance Investment Support Facility for Afghanistan (MISFA), an instrument of the Afghan government, recently announced that the microfinance sector in Afghanistan has disbursed a total of approximately USD 1 billion to low-income Afghan households since 2003. MISFA’s partner microfinance institutions (MFIs) together have reportedly disbursed approximately 1.7 million loans and currently have approximately 420,000 clients.

About Microfinance Investment Support Facility For Afghanistan (MISFA): Microfinance Investment Support Facility For Afghanistan (MISFA) is a microfinance organization established in 2003 by the Afghan government to coordinate donor resources and goals to positively impact the country’s microfinance sector. Through MISFA, the Afghan government and international donors provide technical assistance and funding to develop small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) lending. In its work, MISFA partners with various microfinance institutions (MFIs). Financial information for MISFA is not available on its website or from the Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX), the US-based data provider.
