MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Capgemini Group, MicroWorld Launch Digital Microfinance Platform

French information technology company Capgemini Group and MicroWorld, an internet-based microfinance intermediary and member of the French PlaNet Finance Group, have launched a digital microfinance platform that “allows individuals and companies to lend small sums of money to finance micro-entrepreneurs who are unable to access traditional banking services.” MicroWorld disburses loans via partner microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Peru, Cambodia, Madagascar, Lebanon, Senegal and Tajikistan. The platform allows members of the public to issue interest-free loans from EUR 20 (USD 26.6) upwards. Once fully paid, lenders can either withdraw or reinvest the funds in other projects. Financial details on MicroWorld are not available. Other members of PlaNet Finance Group are involved in a range of microfinance activities including technical assistance, rating and lending [1] [2].
