MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Boston University, CGAP Partner on Financial Inclusion Regulation Website, Request Submissions of Material from Microfinance Stakeholders

The US-based Center for Finance, Law and Policy at Boston University (BU Center) has partnered with CGAP (Consultative Group to Assist the Poor), a US-based nonprofit research and policy center, to create an online repository of materials relating to the regulation of financial inclusion around the world. The resource, which is entitled, Financial Inclusion Guide: A Practitioner’s Resource for Navigating the Financial Inclusion Legal Environment, was known as the Financial Inclusion Regulation Center (FIRC) at the time of its creation by CGAP in 2010. CGAP will maintain an advisory role on the new guide, however it will be managed by the BU Center. Under the university’s leadership, the guide is intended to act as an “industry built resource” to which industry stakeholders can contribute relevant resources, laws, regulations, products, services and technologies related to microfinance and financial inclusion. BU will also be developing and contributing additional materials to help guide users gain a better understanding of financial inclusion. To contribute materials to the guide or to make suggestions, you may contact Neal A. Estey, the center’s associate director, at +1 617 358 6770 or at naestey[at]bu.edu. To access the guide, you may go to: http://www.bu.edu/bucflp/initiatives/financial-inclusion-guide/.

For the fiscal year ending June 2012, CGAP reported total assets of USD 25 million and a budget of USD 22.5 million. The size of the budget for the BU Center is unavailable.
