MICROFINANCE PUBLICATION ROUND-UP: ANDE 2012 Impact Report; Microfinance Performance Evaluation; Status of Microfinance in Karnataka, India

“ANDE 2012 Impact Report”; The Aspen Institute; 2013; 39 pages; available at http://www.aspeninstitute.org/publications/ande-2012-impact-report

This document covers aspects of small and growing businesses including the barriers women business owners face in the marketplace. Research by members of US-based Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) indicates that women have more difficulty finding financing for their business endeavors than men do. ANDE found that businesses in the start-up stage often have trouble finding funding because they do not have established revenue or business models. Finally, the report examines the complications that small-scale agricultural businesses face when they enter the global marketplace, such as finding experienced managers and linking to markets.

”A Poverty Lens on Microfinance – A Report;” by Grameen Foundation India and EDA (Economic Development Associates) Rural; 2013; 50 pages; available at http://www.grameenfoundation.org/resource/microfinance-poverty-lens-financial-inclusion

This document reviews the status of microfinance in the Indian state of Karnataka. The report argues that participants in the microfinance sector should closely examine and measure operations through a “pro-poor” lens.
