MICROFINANCE EVENT: Vision Fund Zambia, Financial Sector Deepening Zambia to Host Online Event on Savings Groups, Microfinance Institutions During Center for Financial Inclusion’s FI2020 Week

Summary of Event: This event will focus on “leveraging savings groups and microfinance institutions (MFIs)” to promote financial inclusion (FI) in Zambia with one presentation focusing on serving “the rural poor” [1]. The event will include presentations by Joanna Ledgerwood of Financial Sector Deepening Zambi (FSDZ), Nkosilathi Moyo of Vision Fund Zambia (VFZ) and Sister Mambwe of the Catholic Diocese of Ndola.

FI2020 Week is organized by the Center for Financial Inclusion at Accion, a US-based nonprofit. FI2020 is part of an initiative to discuss the possibility of full financial inclusion around the world. The event series is being held through November 6, 2015, and includes webinars from 25 partner organizations [2].

Background on Organizers:VFZ is part of VisionFund International, a US-based nonprofit organization that offers financial services to families living in poverty through a network of microfinance institutions in 36 countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Its services include small loans and business training and support. VisionFund is part of US-based World Vision, a Christian relief, development and advocacy organization.

FSDZ is a trust founded in 2013 as part of the Financial Sector Deeping Africa program of the UK’S Department of International Development. “FSDZ does not provide financial services”] FSDZ provides support to micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in addition to providing financial services to low-income clients in Zambia [1].
