Event Summary: The theme of this conference is “the Power of Savings Groups”. This event is divided into breakout sessions focusing on: (1) “Innovation and Technology for Savings Groups”; (2) “Leveraging Savings Groups for Development”; (3) “Linking Savings Groups to Formal Financial Services”; and (4) “Expanding Saving Groups Outreach to more Vulnerable and Diverse Populations”. The event will also include debates among participants regarding the importance of savings groups in the field of microfinance, the role of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in promoting savings groups, and best practices in data collection by savings groups.

Background on Organizers: The Small Enterprise Education and Promotion (SEEP) Network is headquartered in Washington, DC, USA, and was founded in 1985. The nonprofit aims to connect microenterprise practitioners from around the world to develop practical guidelines and tools, build capacity, and help set standards to advance the SEEP Network’s mission of sustainable income in every household. As of 2015, the SEEP Network has 143 institutional members that operate in 170 countries.
