Cost: Pre-conference registration is open until May 20, 2011, during which time the registration fee is USD 500 for participants from Jordan and for Sanabel members and USD 700 for non-members from other countries. After May 20, 2011, registration will be closed until the conference opens, at which time all registration fees will be increased by USD 100. Discounts are available when three or more attendees register from the same organization at the same time.

Summary of Event:
The theme for this year’s conference, which Sanabel expects will attract 600 participants, is “Microfinance in the Arab Region: Challenges of the Past and Opportunities of the Future.” It will feature plenary sessions, mini-trainings and workshops. For the second year running, Sanabel has partnered with Grameen-Jameel to present the Grameen-Jameel MFI Awards. The conference will be preceded by the Third Arab Policy Forum, an event co-organized with CGAP (Consultative Group to Assist the Poor). Further details on this forum are not yet available.

Background on Organizer:
Sanabel is a network of microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Arab countries that was established in 2002 by 17 founding members from seven countries. Currently Sanabel has 49 full members and 31 affiliate members from 12 Arab countries. As of 2009, Sanabel member institutions served 2.4 million clients, a number that reportedly represents 83 percent of all total microfinance clients in the region. In 2004, Sanabel was incorporated and registered as a nonprofit organization in both Atlanta, in the US state of Georgia, and in Cairo, Egypt, where it is headquartered. Sanabel has organized an annual microfinance conference since 2003.
