Cost: If participants register by October 15, 2012, registration fees are USD 500 per person for Sanabel members and Sudanese participants, and USD 700 for others. The fee for on-site registration is USD 100 higher. Discounted rates are also available for groups of three or more.
Summary of Event: The event, which is themed “New Decade for Sanabel, New Services from the Microfinance Sector,” is expected to include 500 donors, investors, practitioners and government representatives. The conference will discuss innovations, challenges, and prospects in microfinance, specifically in the Arab region. Sessions will cover such topics as Islamic microfinance, microinsurance, governance, transparent pricing, serving youth, serving rural areas, mobile savings and remittances as well as potential conflicts between client protection and MFI sustainability. For the five days following this event, Sanabel is offering a “Financial Analysis and SEEP Frame Tool Training Course” covering how to apply financial statements to the SEEP Frame Tool, a microfinance performance monitoring system, to analyze their performance levels.
Presenters: The keynote speaker for this event is Dr. Mohamed Mahathir, the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia, who held his post until 2003.
About the Organizer: Sanabel is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing Arab microfinance. It is a network of microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Arab countries that was established in 2002 by 17 founding members from seven countries. In 2004, Sanabel was incorporated and registered as a nonprofit organization in both Atlanta, in the US state of Georgia, and in Cairo, Egypt, where it is headquartered. Sanabel has 89 member institutions from 13 countries, serving 2.8 million clients as of 2012.
