Cost: Before 15 July 2010, USD 290 for participants from affiliated microfinance institutions (MFIs) or USD 320 for others. After 16 July 2010, USD 330 for participants from affiliated MFIs or USD 375 for others.

The Central American Conference on Microfinance will be held in Costa Rica in August 2010 with the topic of “Crisis: lessons learned and new strategies.” It aims to address challenges that have arisen due to the recent economic recession and to discuss the direction of the Central American microfinance industry.

Red Centroamericana de Microfinanzas (REDCAMIF) is a regional organization that represents the six national networks of the Central American microfinance industry. Its stated objective is to boost the microfinance industry and its impact on the socioeconomic development of Central America.

To present and to analyze the impact of the recent recession on microfinance, strategic approaches to face new challenges and a vision for revival and growth.

  • Present the actions taken by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to address the crisis and its lessons learned
  • Understand the impact of the crisis on microenterprises, mainly on the heads of households in both rural and urban areas
  • Propose new paradigms of microfinance that take into account lessons of the financial downturn
  • Develop strategies for Latin American microfinance, particularly the concepts of risk management, market penetration and social performance
