Event Name: 11th International Microinsurance Conference 2015: Driving Growth and Sustainability – A Business Case for Microinsurance

Cost: The standard fee to attend the conference is EUR 1,290 (USD 1,423) for private sector organizations, EUR 690 (USD 941) for nonprofit organizations, EUR 390 (USD 430) for nonprofit organizations that are based in least developed countries and EUR 290 (USD 320) for participants based in Morocco. Discounts of 46 percent and 31 percent are available for registrations completed before September 1, 2015, and October 30, 2015, respectively. There is no fee for representatives of the press and insurance regulatory and supervisory authorities.

Event Summary: This conference aims to engage stakeholders on the opportunities in the low-income market for health, life, agricultural and bundled insurance products. There will be plenary meetings along the following themes: (1) “From national schemes to individual protection against climate risks”; (2) The landscape of microinsurance in Africa; (3) How microinsurance can become profitable; and (4) Distribution [1]. Small group “parallel sessions” will address themes such as the following: (1) Performance measurement; (2) Servicing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs); (3) Scaling up agricultural microinsurance; (4) How technology can improve agricultural insurance; (5) Client conversion and retention; and (6) Takaful (Islamic insurance) [1]. The conference will close with a field trip to Al Amana Microfinance, a Moroccan microfinance institution (MFI).

Background on Organizers: The Munich Re Foundation was established in 2005 by Munich Re, a German reinsurance company. The foundation aims to find innovative solutions to problems of population growth, globalization, wealth inequality and the environment. Munich Re has EUR 254 billion (USD 350 billion) in total assets as of December 31, 2013. No financial information has been disclosed for Munich Re Foundation.

The Federation Marocaine des Societes D’Assurances et de Reassurance (FMSAR) is a Casablanca-based federation of insurance and reinsurance organizations in the region. Founded in 1958, FMSAR coordinates the activities of its 17 member organizations, aiming to improve insurance market regulation, promote a culture of loss prevention and defend the interests of the insurance sector in Morocco.
The Microinsurance Network is a Luxembourg-based organization that aims to promote the development of insurance products for low-income populations by providing platforms for sharing information. As of August 2015, the Microinsurance Network reported 70 member organizations in 40 countries.
