MICROFINANCE EVENT: Making Finance Work for Africa Meeting in Ghana in June

MAKING FINANCE WORK FOR AFRICA – PARTNERSHIP MEETING

JUNE 17 – JUNE 18, 2008, ACCRA, GHANA

The Partnership for Making Finance Work for Africa is an initiative to support the efforts of African countries to accelerate economic growth and reduce poverty. This event is to inlcude:

  • focus groups, breakout sessions, and plenary discussions centering on the following goals:
    1. Expanding Access to Financial Services: by all sectors of the economy: as measured by the number of firms, individuals and households with access to quality and sustainable financial services
    2. Increasing Financial Depth, Diversity and Efficiency: as indicated by the ratio of credit to the private sector as a percentage of GDP, interest margins and indicators of capital market and other non-bank financial sector development across African financial systems
    3. Strengthening Institutional and Regulatory Capacity: as measured by business environment and other institutional development indicators
  • a marketplace to showcase ideas, tools, expertise and initiatives in support of African financial sector development, and to match supply and demand for these approaches and
  • an opportunity for policy makers, private sector innovators and technical assistance providers to network with their peers, make new connections, discuss their experience, exchange best practice and present innovative approaches to African finance.

The effort is supported by a wide range of international development organizations, which are listed on the invitation to the event.  The event is free of charge, but registration is required.
