About the Event:
This ten-day course is intended for participants with little or no knowledge of microfinance and aims to highlight the state of microfinance, its emergence, its future and the challenges the industry now faces. The course will introduce a range of issues in microfinance with the aim of imparting a holistic understanding of the field using various pedagogical methods. Field visits will be made to a number of microfinance institutions (MFIs) including BRAC (formerly the Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee), Grameen Bank, SafeSave and ASA (formerly The Association for Social Advancement). The course, which generally is offered two or three times per year, is organized by the Alliance Forum Foundation, a nonprofit with offices in the US and Japan and BRAC Development Institute, an affiliate of BRAC University, a degree-granting institution that was founded in Bangladesh in 2001 by BRAC. Applications are due October 31, 2011.
