Summary of Event: The “Back to the Basics” of microfinance conference will provide a forum for microfinance stakeholders to engage and exchange experiences with the objective of examining how the microfinance sector in Africa can provide alternative financial services that help alleviate poverty and create wealth. Key sessions include: (1) “Overview on the Evolution of Microfinance & Its Role in Poverty Reduction”; (2) “Challenges of Planning and Managing Growth for Africa’s Microfinance Institutions”; (3) “Good Practices in Designing Policies, Delivery Procedures/Processes and Implementing Microfinance Operations”; (4) “Creating an Enabling Environment for Microfinance in Africa: The Role of Governments in Effectively Promoting Microfinance: The Case of Kenya”, and (5) “Cutting Edge Mobile Technology Innovation: The Case of M-PESA in Kenya.”
