MICROFINANCE EVENT: European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP) to Host European Microfinance Week, November 16-18, 2016, Luxembourg

Cost: The cost to attend the event is EUR 625 (USD 700), with the following offers available to members of the European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP): (1) individual members may register for EUR 250 (USD 280); and (2) organizational members receive registration for one person at no charge. Students may apply for a discounted price of EUR 100 (USD 112).

Summary of Event: European Microfinance Week is an annual event coordinated by e-MFP and supported by the government of Luxembourg to provide a forum for discussion and networking among microfinance industry stakeholders working in developing nations. The 2016 program is organized around three plenary sessions: “Microfinance and Access to Education;” “Microfinance and Housing, One Brick at a Time;” and “Digital Finance: Full Inclusion or Empty Promise?”. It will include workshops and training sessions on topics such as risk management, “green” microfinance, microinsurance, social performance, technology and remittances. The Seventh European Microfinance Award, themed “Microfinance and Access to Education,” will be presented on November 17, along with its cash prize of EUR 100,000 (USD 112,000).

Background on Organizers: Founded in 2006, the European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP) is a network of 124 microfinance organizations and individuals that aims to promote information exchange and other forms of cooperation among European microfinance actors working in developing countries. E-MFP members include financial institutions, government agencies, NGOs, consultancies, researchers and universities.

The annual European Microfinance Award, which recognizes “innovative thinking in the microfinance sector,” is jointly organised by the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs – Directorate for Development Cooperation, e-MFP and the Inclusive Finance Network Luxembourg, with the support of the European Investment Bank.
