Cost: Attendance at the meeting is free of charge for accepted applicants, but the application period closed on January 30, 2013. Based on financial need, participants may request assistance with travel and hotel costs.

Summary of Event: The meeting will bring together approximately 1,000 college students to attend workshops, share ideas and make “Commitments to Action,” pledges to develop projects that address challenges in their communities. Approximately USD 400,000 will be available for students to fulfill their commitments. The meeting will focus on education, The environment and climate change, peace and human rights, poverty alleviation, and public health. Sessions include “solutions without borders: working with unlikely allies”; “a better future for girls and women: empowering the next generation”; and “getting off the ground: stories of starting up.”

Background on Organizer: Based on the model of the Clinton Global Initiative, Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) was launched in 2007 by former US president Bill Clinton to bring together college students to develop solutions to address global challenges. CGI U hosts an annual meeting at which participants share ideas, attend workshops and develop action plans. after the meeting, attendees are expected to follow up with CGI U on the status of their projects.
