Event Summary: Themed “Advancing Financial Inclusion in a Digital Age,” this event will include plenaries on topics such as collaboration and regulating digital financial services. Breakout sessions will address topics such as blockchain technology, gender, serving youth and reaching “the last mile.” On March 23, participants may visit with staff and clients of either Tinh Thuong Microfinance Institution or the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies.

Event Cost: The fee to attend is USD 400 with a rate of USD 200 offered to NGOs and all members of the Banking With the Poor Network, which has 123 members in 18 countries, primarily in Asia. The fees increase by USD 100 on February 10. Scholarship applications and group discounts are available upon request. An additional fee of USD 30 applies to those participating in one of the field visits.

About the Organizers: This event is co-organized by the Australia-based Foundation for Development Cooperation (FDC) and the US-based Citi Foundation. The mission of FDC is “building prosperity in the Asia Pacific region by pursuing initiatives that reduce poverty and promote equitable growth.” Its projects include the Banking With the Poor network, the Microfinance Pasifika network, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Working Group on Financial Inclusion and the Energy for All Partnership. Financial details on the organization are not available. The Citi Foundation, an affiliate of US-based financial services firm Citigroup, provides grants and loan guarantees focusing on the areas of microfinance, small business, education, asset building and neighborhood revitalization. Its annual giving totaled USD 78 million during 2015.
