Cost: Admission to the forum costs USD 565 for the general public, USD 465 for representatives of registered non-governmental organizations, and USD 265 for students and members of the Banking With the Poor Network (BWTP). All participants registering prior to June 13, 2014 are eligible for a discount of USD 100.

Summary of Event: The Asia Microfinance Forum (AMF) 2014 aims to bring together stakeholders in the microfinance sector to discuss how to promote inclusive and sustainable financial services in Asia. Topics to be covered include: the role of microfinance in promoting the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, creating demand-driven microfinance products, opportunities and challenges of investing in Asia, the role of state-owned banks in promoting financial inclusion, leveraging remittances for development and opportunities for advancing youth entrepreneurship.

Background on Organizers:

The forum is organized by the Banking With the Poor Network (BWTP), an Asian microfinance network that is an initiative of the Australia-based Foundation for Development Cooperation. BWTP aims to bring together a “diverse range of microfinance stakeholders committed to improving the quality of life of the poor through promoting and facilitating their access to sustainable financial services.” FDC was founded in 1990 and is based in Brisbane, with offices in Singapore and Fiji. The foundation conducts policy-oriented research and mobilizes Australian and international support for development efforts in three thematic areas: (1) “private sector partnerships for economic development;” (2) “local economies, enterprise and livelihoods;” and (3) “financial inclusion.”
